KC Raises Money, Awareness for Breast Cancer This October

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and KC shopping centers and restaurants are giving you plenty of ways to help raise money.

This Thursday, October 2, RSVP Medspa is hosting a tailgate party to benefit Susan G. Komen Greater Kansas City. From 5:30 to 9 p.m., you can score 20 percent off discounts on all of RSVP’s products and services and enter to win raffle prizes with treatments worth up to $1,250. Plus there’s food, drinks and entertainment.

Menorah Medical Center is kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a party for the ladies October 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. You’ll find delicious hors d’oeuvres and pink drinks, pink hair extensions, nail art, yoga demonstrations, hand & foot massages, shopping, giveaways, pink ribbons as well as walk-in screening mammograms.

Nonprofit Back in the Swing has partnered with stores and restaurants in Camelot Court, Country Club Plaza, Hawthorne Plaza, Mission Farms, Park Place, Town Center Plaza and Town Center Crossing, plus more spots to raise money for breast cancer survivors October 1-15. A $5 donation at participating stores gets you a pedometer as well as discounts and special offers at many places. See the participating shops and shopping centers for details.

You’ll want to pick up something pink so you can show your support during Pink Out KC for Breast Cancer Awareness on October 17. Don’t forget to share your photos through social media and tag Komen KC.

In addition to participating in Back in the Swing, Park Place is raising money for Komen KC through Pink in the Park, girls’ night out events happening on October 23 and October 25. A $50 ticket gets you small plates at RA Sushi or Carma, painting at Pinot’s Palette, a $5 gift card and special offers at stores and restaurants exclusive to attendees.

Fitness Culture is also donating 15 percent of proceeds from its October 9 trunk show, where you can grab items like this Splits 59 breast cancer tank ($64) from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Village Shops in Prairie Village is going pink in honor of the cause with buildings adorned with pink lights. Stop by the pink lighting ceremony October 1 starting at 7 p.m., then enjoy special fundraising events throughout the month, including a lunch & shop day on October 7 and a date night October 9. You’ll definitely want to mark you calendar for the Paint the Town Pink Shopping Week October 23-30, when a donation to Shawnee Mission Health’s Camp Bluebird at any Village Shops store or restaurant gets you great offers like 25 percent off a brunch entrée at story or 15 percent off Trina Turk designs at Clique Boutique.

For just a $5 donation to the University of Kansas Cancer Center’s Breast Cancer Survivorship Center, you can “Shop Pink & Save” at the Legends Outlets Kansas City all October. The card gives you loads of valuable discounts, including $20 off a purchase of $125 or more at Saks Fifth Avenue OFF 5th, 25 percent off at Tommy Hilfiger, the Ralph Lauren Factory Store, and the Banana Republic Factory Store and much more. Each offer can be redeemed once, but if there’s one your particularly excited about, you can buy additional Shop Pink & Save bonus cards to take advantage of the deals more than once.

Plan to dine out at one of the Kansas City Originals Restaurants October 22-28. The group of local restaurants is hosting Breastaurant Week and donating a portion of proceeds to the American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” 5K Walk. Keep an eye on Facebook for details about which restaurants are participating, and register for the October 25 walk at Liberty Memorial online here.
