Find out why Kansas City is once again being praised by Travel + Leisure, Food & Wine and other national media outlets.
Travel + Leisure readers continue to pile love on KC. We came in at No. 9 on its list of America’s most charming cities based on features that make cities special, from a sense of history to quaint bookstores. But that’s not the only recent accolade from the publication. Our culture was awarded, with KC coming in at No. 4 on the list of most cultured cities thanks to factors like free admission at the three main museums, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art, as well as an array of concerts of diverse and delicious cuisine.
KC also came in at No. 4 on its list of friendly cities with help from its affordability and good drivers, according to reader responses. Naturally our barbecue and other delicious dining establishments played a role too—cities were ranked on their inviting features, including shopping and dining as well as residents’ general conviviality. Travel + Leisure is even sweet for our desserts, awarding KC a top 10 spot in its roundup of the country’s best cities for sweets. Natasha’s Mulberry & Mott, Andre’s Confiserie Suisse and Snow and Co. all scored mentions.
Our sandwiches are also enjoying a moment in the spotlight. Thrillist’s list of “50 Sandwiches You Should Eat Before You Die” features two local dishes. Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que’s Z-Man and LC’s Bar-B-Q’s burnt end sandwich both received enthusiastic praise. “Some would argue that Joe’s brisket on its own is simply perfect. And they’d be right. But anyone who argues against complementing it with smoked provolone, onion rings, and a kaiser roll should be promptly shown the door,” the website notes.
The burnt end sandwich receives a similarly ecstatic write-up: “Once you eat the burnt ends from LC’s, you’re a changed person.”
Of course our bar scene wasn’t forgotten. Port Fonda earned a spot on Food & Wine’s list of the Best Bars in America thanks to its extensive selection of tequila and mescal.
Want to see KC get even more recognition?
